Our journey started with our sister brand, Books That Matter, after founder Molly realised only 1 out of 16 texts available in the GCSE curriculum is written by a woman. How can we expect women and girls to be empowered if they’re not represented in the books they’re reading, and the stories they’re engaging with? Since 2018, Books That Matter has been putting women’s writing in the spotlight through unique reading experiences and we felt it was time to introduce these narratives to the next generation. Brave Girls Book club launched in November 2020 and since then we’ve been sending our curated subscription boxes to the doors of young feminists worldwide. We’ve collaborated with the likes of Good Night Stories For Rebel Girls and childhood hero Jacqueline Wilson. We’re only at the start of this incredible story, so we’d love for you to read along with us.
We believe that when girls see themselves represented, powerful things happen. Brave Girls Book Club is the book subscription box pulling together diverse stories and powerful protagonists to empower and inspire young girls worldwide. We exist to fill the gap of underrepresentation of girls and women in the curriculum, publishing and media by putting female-led literature in the hands of young readers. Through new-found knowledge, positive role models and feminist stories, there’s a world of possiblitity waiting for our Brave Girls. We want Brave Girls Book Club to be more than a subscription, but a place of education and community, for adults and children alike.
